Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: Our scientific goal is verification of the hypoth‑ esis about relatively better economic performance of the catching‑up economies which are open, democratic and based on market economy. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: We proves this hypothesis searching for relations between political and economic systems and development possibilities of Poland, Belarus and Serbia. We used interdisciplinary approach with economic, juristic and political tools. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: We started with analysis of processes of creation of political and economic systems and search for inter‑ connections between them and development possibilities of the selected states. These interconnections we analyzed and compared internationally using basic macro‑ and microeconomic data and indexes (GDP, GDP pc, export, trade balance and magnitude and characteristics of FDI flows). RESEARCH RESULTS: The analysis is complicated because we have doubts about trustfulness of statistical data, especially concerning Belarus and because Belarus’ economy is – at least partly not market economy. Additional problem is relative late creation of Serbia as an independent state. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The verification of the hypothesis hasn’t ended with success. The basic data appeared not to be enough to confirm it. The main reason are statistical data imperfections.
