National Library of Romania’s projects to integrate people with disabilities

Summary/Abstract: The real integration of the people with disabilities into the educational system and then on the work market can by achieved by facilitating the convenient access to information. This way, the National Library of Romania initiated the project Dream (Digital Resources – easy to access and manage) with the support of the Foundation Orange. In the same time, in December 2012, on the occasion of the International day of the people with disabilities, the National Library of Romania was assigned the „Mark of accessibility” by the Foundation Motivation Romania, after an audit of a mixt team of wheelchair users, experts in accessibility and architects. The National Library provides assistance in the field to the libraries which want to make available collections and services to the people with disabilities. Dream project’s results will have an influence upon the social and economic environment as the number of visually impaired pupils and students will increase, as well as the professional integration of the visually disabled people and access to the National Library collection and to specialized databases through the library site; guidance in using new technologies; reduce discrimination.
