Summary/Abstract: A great part of every library’s collection are at the beginning or at the end of their lifetime, and the lasting years can be only prolonged by implementing a preventive conservation policy, as well as a curative conservation, restoration or reformatting (in order to save information). The National Centre for Documents Pathology and Restoration coordinates the activity of preservation, conservation and restoration, at national level through: preventive conservation of the patrimony collection; physical, chemical and biological investigations on books and other patrimony documents; practical training of the specialized staff; elaborate information sources in the field. Since April 2011, the National Library of Romania provides professional training for the occupation „cultural goods conserver”, and it is authorized by the Authorization Commission of the National Council for Adults Professional Training. The training programme for book conservation experts is designed in three modules: planning the conservation activity; evaluate the cultural goods’ condition; control the microclimate conditions.
