Summary/Abstract: The National Library provides unlimited access to its collection and specialized high quality services and products; the library answers to the information needs in all fields of research, through its own collection or through the databases to which it provided access.The Collection development department has a very important role in supporting the National Library patrimony function, through current and retrospective purcahse, donations, and documents exchange and transfer. The collection development policy is not a circumstantial activity, but it is the reuslt of some professional requests. In the new building, the National Library of Romania benefits from a larger exposure of the new collection and that means to re-design collection and the steps to obtain proper financial and human resources. Each category of documents in the collection will be evaluated and the result of this eavluation will ensure a new selection, the catalogue up -date and every theme will be subjected to a survey of strength aspects and lacks.
