Summary/Abstract: One of the most talented Lithuanian painters of the last century Anatanas Samuolis was born in 1899 in Samogitia. During WW I he lived in Russia, in Moscow. After the war, he returned to Lithuania to serve in the army. In 1920 he entered Kaunas Drawing Courses opened by Justinas Vienoþinskis. After two years of studies there, he entered Kaunas Arts School and graduated from it in 1929. Samuolis was a member of the Association of Independent Artist. In 1932 he became on of the organizes of Ars group. He persistently followed his own way of professional self-perfecting and made a significant contribution to the development of the national painting school. Samuolis died in 1942.
