Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to recognize and offer a general definition and description of the manner in which historical elements are represented and brought to life in Svetlana Velmar-Janković’s fiction, as well as those tying into her biography and experience. The paper also describes how, within Velmar-Janković’s creative process,her desire to reshape history fictionally, partially overrides the attempt to offer a credible testimony of the historical truth and her personal life’s truth – to be precise,how in her fiction storytelling and the universalization of experience gain a privileged ontological status.
