Hybridisation of the Public Sector

Summary/Abstract: Critique of the organization and management of the public sector in the 1990s led to the extensive application of private sector regulations and practices in public sector organizations. This gave rise to hybrid organizations which mixed goals and values pursued in the public sector with methods typical of the private sector. The authors of this article describe various effects of this phenomenon using a number of examples from Europe.
