Summary/Abstract: The paper includes selected analyses of the concepts of creation and innovation on the grounds of various disciplines in social sciences and humanities (psychology, education studies, philosophy, economics, management and sociology). Both concepts have a very long history in all the disciplines. However, in the information era there is a need of the fresh summary of their definitions, characteristic traits and relationship with other concepts, such as activity, creativity, invention or entrepreneurship. Different dimensions of creation and innovation were presented, those related to an artist as a creator as well as an ordinary human being. Similarly innovation was analysed, both as a source of development for an organisation and enterprise, on the one hand, and as way to solve specific social problems or a social innovation, on the other. Sociological view of innovation seems to connect the micro-perspective of the education studies, psychology and philosophy with the macro-perspective of economics, organisation and management studies.
