Perspectives of using railway in communication services of northern districts of Gdynia

Summary/Abstract: Main purpose of the study was analysis and assess the potential and usage of public transport in nothern districtsof Gdynia, in the context of prospects for the development of the Rapid City Railway. It can serve as an alternative meansof public transport which can reduce traffic on currently used roads. This is particularly important issue because of thehigh sensitivity of the main communication routes of these districts to any traffic impediments that lead to congestion ina large area, with no alternative routes of travel and modes of transport not affected by road traffic. The article presentscurrent state of spatial development and communication accessibility of the this districts of Gdynia, along with analysisand evaluation of the proposed solutions for extending the public railway transport to this area, as well as creatingconnections with the rest of the city.
