Summary/Abstract: Mythological songs in the Bosniak oral tradition have been most intensively recorded since the second half of the nineteenth century. However, until now there have been no serious theoretical approaches to this kind of lyrical song. This paper offers an insight into the history of recordings of Bosniak mythological songs in oral literature, and aims to analyze their poetical characteristics, based on selected examples from manuscripts and collections composed over a period of 120 years. The main contribution of this paper is a systematic analysis of the themes and motifs of these lyrical songs, hitherto unexplored in the oral poetry of Bosniak literature.
