Summary/Abstract: Valère Novarina, French drama writer and director classifies some of his own works as “utopian theatre”. These pieces are excellent examples of the theory of Jill Dolan, who thinks that the utopia in theatre instead of referring to the past or the future takes place in the present of the drama (and its representation) by elaborating present and eventual interactions. In “La Chair de l’homme”, Novarina introduces 3.171 persons on the scene showing a wide range of possible relations among these people from different points of view, by expansion of the eyes of the reader or the spectator. The geographical location of the piece creates a mental space where very different places can meet. Novarina offers a synchronic view of the present in his “utopian theatre”, letting different times and realities written on each other within one piece.
