Summary/Abstract: Sex is one of the basic demographic traits. In the gender perspective, sex is a factor of demographic reality. While on the one hand it is accepted as a customary approach in analysises and researches of population and population phenomenon, on the other hand there is lack of understanding. Consequently the goal to substantiate the gender perspective in demography in a more concrete way arises. Justification and importance of such an approach are found in the epistemological foundations of the science of population and results of gender sensitive researches. As a heuristic means, the gender perspective contributes to a more profound understanding of demographic phenomenon and social position of both sexes. Apart from scientific, there is a more practical contribution in perceiving population and social problems.
