Tourist Function as an Activator for Towns and Cities of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship

Summary/Abstract: The main goal of the study was to asses the development level of the tourist function as an activator for development of urban areas in the świętokrzyskie voivodeship. It was achieved using indicative methods and a synthetic measure, Percal’s index for differentiation of tourist function development. The synthetic index was based on three elements: tourist attractions, tourist development as well as tourist activity. The results proved that the tourist function of urban areas is of supplementary nature. The centres which attract tourists are towns and cities with numerous environmental and cultural attractions and famous for significant number of cultural and popular events (Busko-Zdrój, Chęciny, Kielce and Sandomierz).
