Summary/Abstract: The article presents the sociological reconstruction of images of Slovakia and Slovaks used by Polish local elites in Southern Poland. The analysis is based on the qualitative data from three borderland towns. The theoretical concept of space as the social construct and S. Ossowski’s idea of the neighbourhood distance, led to mapping of structure of different local imaginations of Slovakia and their position in the general concept of locality used by the respondents.
