Summary/Abstract: One of the greatest contemporary recognized music theologians, cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, in his reflection on sacred music, presents a rather gloomy vision of the situation in which it is currently located. Today's times are marked by a kind of schizophrenia, on the one hand ubiquitous popular music, which also entered the churches, and on the other, elite music, equally unfit for church use. This tear means that the Church must constantly reflect on the quality of musical art in the liturgy, often confronted with an anti-Christian culture that has nothing to offer it. The scientific conference under the slogan "Gloriam Dei per musicam pronuntiare", organized by the Faculty of Theological Section in Tarnów of the John Paul II University in Krakow, on November 6-7, 2015, was the subject of discussion on this subject. The reviewed publication, being the fruit of this symposium, is the aftermath of theological reflection on nature, beauty, functions and tasks of sacred music in the liturgical assembly. It consists of seven papers presented by specialists from various scientific centers, including one foreign, taking up the multi-faceted role of liturgical music.
