Summary/Abstract: Under the pressure of globalisation redefining the concept of social reality has become imperative. The series of global challanges, the necessity of building a planetary conscience (softening the conflict between the planetary market and the general interests), the tension between “the global” and “the local”, the mediatic transfiguration of the world, the offensive of consumerism, the planetary nomadism (Homo zappiens) – all these are tantamount to our age. Within this context the “case” of Roşia Montană represents more than just a controversial project put forward by a foreign agent (Gold Corporation) which promises durable development of the area. It also led to a polarisation of reactions (inflaming the nation against a background of ecologic sensitivity) engenderind a split-fault within the community. Therefore, convinced of the importance of sociology for a valid social diagnosis we are proposing (putting forward) a critical-interrogative approach of the massive dossier, bringing to attention widely circulated opinions and recent research (including published materials) pertinent to our subject.
