Summary/Abstract: Women are subjected to many stereotypes in today’s society. Culture ideas, symbols, norms and valuesplay a significant role in the creation of women images and the differentiation of gender roles. The purpose ofthe present article is to understand the images of femininity in European society. Women are often representedin the media in roles traditionally assigned by society, portrayed as passive and lesser beings, mothers or sexualobjects. These sexist stereotypes in the media perpetuate a simplistic, immutable and caricatured image ofwomen and men, legitimising everyday sexism and discriminatory practices and establishing a barrier to genderequality.
