Legal Acts on Protection of Witnesses and Other Persons Threatened in Connection with Criminal Proceedings

Summary/Abstract: The article presents a systematization of legal acts held in order to protect threatened persons involved in Bulgarian criminal procedure. Criminal legal protection ensures the safety of all persons whose testimony, statements or information are essential to the criminal proceedings. Witness protection is particularly important for the deposition of objective and reliable evidence on which every equitable sentence should be reasoned and pronounced. It is believed that the correct and efficient application of the witness protection would lead to the achievement of the highest legislative objective - namely, to ensure effective cooperation in the fight against serious intentional offenses as well as organized crime. The author has alluded to important conclusions and recommendations in view of the right development andimprovement of the Bulgarian legislation in the field of the law of evidence and witness protection.
