Summary/Abstract: The article aims to analyse the role and importance of the European Union (EU) membership in the process of approximation of private law regulations in the Member States. Issues related to the specific features of the convergence of national legal systems in the EU are commented and their main characteristics are defined. The focus of analysis is the significance and the role of EU mandatory law and the case-law of the European Court ofJustice (ECJ) in shaping the regulation in European private law and its influence on Member States ’ private law.
