Summary/Abstract: The article intends to emphasize the important changes of the academic library, its environment and users needs. In the 21st century, new strategies for library development are also significant for the profession as well. New technologies have a huge influence on library services, on teaching and research. As universities are transforming in high tech societies, the allocations for scientific resources as electronic periodicals, databases and special platforms must be increased; the IT progress in libraries helps to satisfy the technical minded users.
