Summary/Abstract: Globalization is clearly a catalyst for rapid growth and an uncontrolled and uncontrollable development may takedestructive forms. From the perspective of those who fight for environmental protection, globalization is associated with a number ofnegative phenomena and the currently available data seem to validate and support these fears. A complete impact assessment ofglobalization on the environmental quality is difficult to realise, and in this context sustainable development should be the foundationand purpose, at least in terms of environmental protection, of the entire complex process of globalization.
