Summary/Abstract: Borszék (Borsec), also called the Pearl of Szeklerland, has been already a commonly visited place in the late 18th century, due to the curative power of its mineral waters. As the habit and culture of drinking mineral water was spreading, Borszék’s publicity kept on growing, till the medicinal course of drinking was completed by spa courses. In the 1870’s the settlement had a firm character of a spa resort. At the beginning of the 20th century the needs have been developing a space, and consequently the resort’s apparatus was not enough; it needed large scaled investments. The most immediate and important expansions seemed to be a cure-salon and a hotel, which have been already required by visitors in the 1880’s. As the owners of the spa resort – the landowners of villages Ditrău and Lăzarea – were in great indebtedness, they managed to sign a 50-year-long lease with a freshly developed Public Company. The contract’s main condition was the construction of the above-mentioned buildings. The huge investments between 1911–14, based on the plans of architect’s Lajos Fejér, due to several different problems mainly between the owners and the lessees, unfortunately did not succeed.
