Summary/Abstract: This novel - The Sons of the Stone-hearted Man – is a central part of the Hungarian romantic prose fiction tradition and also the literary education. Balázs Nyilasy’s study draws up a new interpretation: in a more philosophical point of view the central elements of desire and relations to reality make a new genre, a kind of “modern romance”. This interpretation offers a new understanding of Mór Jókai’s vision of the revolution in 1948-49, and also to its literary talent.
