Summary/Abstract: The works of Körmöczi János (1763–1836), mostly manuscripts, consist of excerpts from several disciplines. Looking back at his career, we can conclude that he has sought to generate a community, whose motive force would be, in accordance with the preoccupation with language, the translation and discussion of literary and philosophical works. especially the notes from his foreign academic studies from 1796–1797 show a strong interest in the social sciences, as well as natural sciences and religion as we see those disciplines now. in his mixed language academic notes, he reflects upon which language would be the most suitable for the cultivation of sciences and concludes that just as the universalism – the studying of disciplines in conjunction with each other – would be the condition of knowledge, the same way an indispensable tool for being a literate is the knowledge of more than one language, because one cannot be erudite by knowing only one language, as they are the key to all sciences.
