Summary/Abstract: In the post-totalitarian age, Eugen Ionescu, a writer which has not been included in the Communist textbooks due to the well-known ideological reasons, turns into the favorite subject of critical analysis in various literary studies of the period, focusing his work and dealing with the difficult issue of its aesthetic classification according to the traditional canonic criteria. Approaching “the young” Eugen Ionescu’s spiritual biography, Eugen Simion’s homonym essay uses remarkable hermeneutic techniques to point out the writer’s obsessive themes encoded in his biographic and literary discourses as well as the intricacies of his negative attitude.
