Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the celebration of national holidays (11th November, 3rd of May Consitution, Sea Days) in the town of Zator during the interwar period. It focuses on the Polish civic society, active on the local scale, following the period of partitions. The celebrations were aimed at cultivating patriotism with its cultural, educational and religious dimensions. Those festive events followed a very strict agenda, supervised by the Committee. University scholars from Krakow were invited to deliver their lectures, local artists staged their performances, Holy Masses were celebrated. Thus, the revived Poland, made up of the lands of the three partitions, tried to unite the citizens by deepening their knowledge about history, and by making them aware of the threats coming from the neighbouring countries: Russia and Germany. The text is based on official correspondence, collected at the Oswiecim Branch of the State Archive in Katowice.
