Summary/Abstract: Generally, Albanians, as well as Dalmatians, Bosnians and Greeks, were employed as rowers or as sailors, not as merchants, although skillfully many o f them exploit their position as rowers to take with them a limited number of goods which they could trade, taking somehow the role o f small traders. Most part o f the Albanians employed in these galleys, came from the Shkodra basin (Scutari, Drivasto, Dagno and the villages on the shores o f Shkodra Lake), Lezha (Alessio) and Durazzo. The Albanians like the other sailors, shared not only the profits of this trade, but also the inherent dangers and difficulties that faced these galleys.
