Summary/Abstract: The remarks, made by the First Secretary of the Dagestan District Committee of the CPSU, M. S. Umakhanov, suggest that the Party's objectives in the field of ideological education have not yet been achieved in the autonomous SSR Dagestan, which is predominantly inhabited by Muslims. In particular, the party secretary criticizes the apparently widespread identification of national and religious affiliation, the indifference of responsible cadres to atheist education, and the "overvaluation" of their own national past and local customs and practices influenced by Islam. Therefore, Umachanov calls for overcoming "national narrowness" and the still existing "localism" on the one hand, and more state-wide thinking on the other, which should, for example, serve multinational workforce, but also an increased number of mixed marriages between people of different nationalities.
