An Investigation of Teachers' Leadership Orientation Perceptions in Terms of Age and Gender Variables

Summary/Abstract: In the world where there has been a rapid growth and a globalisation process in every part in the first quarter of century, educational applications and the qualifications of people who will be trained forced everybody accord to this speed and change. The teachers direction, orientation and leadership skills have an important role in individuals life in means of their becoming more effective and skillful in their own sector. The aim of this study is to examine the teachers leadership orientation perception who work as a high school teacher in the center of Kars. In the study general scanning method has been used. The universe of the study includes 14 state and a private high school and 500 teachers. The study group includes 165 male and 145 female teachers who have been selected randomly, in total 310 teachers. In the study as a data collecting tool Leadership Orientation Scale (LYÖ) which has been developed by Bolman and Deal (1991) and adopted to Turkish by Dereli (2002) has been used. In analysing of the data descriptive statistics, t-test and Kruskall Wallis H tests have been used. According to the data obtained from the study, there is not any meaningful difference between the variants of gender, age, marital status, branch, state of education, period of being a teacher where they live and their dimension of leadership orientation.
