Summary/Abstract: The changes within the media sector in the last two decades are numerous. Media metamorphosis ( mediamorphosis) has fundamentally changed the world of media not only due to the expansion of new media and the crisis of professional journalism in general, but also because of the advent of citizen journalism - media phenomenon of active part of citizenship and also as a response to the crisis of democracy. Professional journalism has for long been dependent not only on the decisions of the editorial board but also on the decisions of the owners, advertisers and their preferences. Journalists are involved in dubious political game and triangle between media owners - power elite - advertisers. Also, a new threat for professional journalism in the form of citizen journalism which was facilitated by the exponential development of new media technologies (primarily smartphones and web platforms) emerged as a new phenomenon. This paper presents a theoretical and socio - technological preconditions for the creation of a new media phenomenon — an media active citizenship also recognized as citizen journalism. It also describes specific mediamorphosis that has redefined the concept ofjournalism and set some new ways of conduct and modus operandi.
