Summary/Abstract: The article traces the complex formation of the Albanian national identity in terms of great backwardness of European development, tribal and religious fragmentation (especially for holding back in this direction is the impact of Islam professed by the majority of Albanians who realize themselves as "Turks", ie members the privileged Muslim community of the Ottoman Empire), the inevitable antagonism with Balkan neighbors and others.
