Summary/Abstract: In Belarusian historiography, the history of women as an independent research direction appears only in the middle 1990-ies. Since that time, some scientific conferences have been held and some special editions dedicated to the history of women in Belarus. It should be noted that the researchers are not interested in the women’s history by itself – there are very few publications on it. The history of women’s participation in public life of the Byelorussian SSR can be divided into three periods: interwar, the Second World War and after the Second World War. The foundation of the women’s councils and the congresses of delegates and their activity in the interwar period are better described. The authors note that the Belarusian authorities expected that the activity of these institutions would lead to the changes in the social position of women increasing their role in public life. The women’s participation in other social organizations and social movements in the Byelorussian SSR are shallowly studied as well as their participation in the Belarusian collaborating organizations during the Second World War.
