Summary/Abstract: Undoubtedly, the issue of quality is one of the most interesting chapters of operations management (traditionally referred to as production management). On one hand the topic is very up to date because quality is becoming a more and more widespread product-parameter. On the other hand, the main question that needs to be answered is how can a company construct a competitive strategy based on product and process quality in the circumstances of “quality inflation”, and the ever-accelerating pace of competition? This paper discusses the developments of quality management in the last decades, focusing on the present state of this science. The theory and practice that this paper presents can mainly be observed in the modern corporate science and in the practices of the big corporate world, and not so much in the developing countries and at the level of smaller enterprises. The essence of this paper can be well understood if the reader possesses some basic knowledge of operations management such as: Just In Time (JIT), Total Quality Management (TQM), and different lot-sizing models
