Summary/Abstract: The author proposes to study ethnic art tradition applying two approaches simultaneously. The first is historical approach. The ethnic art tradition as passing stages of progressive development system is considered. The certain perception of the world matches each stage and congenial paradigm of folk art to it. The second is system–resource approach. The ethnic art tradition is analyzed as a system with a constantly changing level of passionate–creative potential on which the number and activity of participants in creativity depends as well as the innovative and aesthetic value of the art ideas produced by masters. The ethnic art tradition can pass phases depending on the level of passionate–creative potential: genesis, primary development, creative rise, reverberation, actualization. These approaches combination was approved by the author during the study the ethnic art tradition of glass–beaded decoration of Ukrainian national costume. The cause–effect relationships between the levels of passionate–creative potential and different–quality transformations in the system of art tradition is revealed.
