The Ideological Background of a Literary–Historical Polemic

Summary/Abstract: The polemic led in „Borba“ over the course of 1967 regarding P. Popović’s Pregled srpske književnosti (An Overview of Serbian Literature) was, in essence, caused by the participants’ dissent over the identity of Ragusan literature and the right to examine it within the Serbo–Croatian or Croatian cultural context. The course of the debate showed that the viewpoints of the participants were grounded not merely in literary–historical arguments, but in an ideological platform as well – one that presented a firm basis for the cultural and political model of socialist Yugoslavia.
