Summary/Abstract: It is shown that the modern South of Russia (multiethnic, multipolar, with pronounced interterritorial differences in the demographic situation) continues to maintain its importance as a highly problematic and geostrategically significant macro-region of the Russian Federation. The increasing polycentrism of regional development is accentuated, the migration attractiveness of the cities of the South of Russia is characterized, the ethnodemographic transformations characteristic for them are revealed. The geoconcept of the "Greater South of Russia" is proposed, its main structural components are specified.
