Summary/Abstract: The paper attempts to assess some of the legal instruments for the implementation of quality policy in the field of agricultural products and foodstuffs, known as protected designation of origin (PDO), protected geographical indication (PGI) and traditional specialty guaranteed (TSG). It indicated legal regulations concerning financial assistance for the development of these quality systems under the first and second pillar of the common agricultural policy, and some of the new solutions adopted in the last Regulation (EU) No. 1151/2012. An important change is the obligation to ensure protection ex officio by the Member States of all PDO, PGI and TSG, placed on its territory, regardless of their country of origin, which should harmonize the level of protection throughout the EU and thereby ensure the rights of producers to fair competition and those of consumers to reliable information.
