Summary/Abstract: Upon the threshold of the independence of the Republic of Poland, its relations with Bulgaria were dominated by two types of factors – political and historical. The first meant that within the international configuration in Central-Eastern Europe after the end of the First World War, the targets, range and tactics of the Polish policy vis-à-vis Bulgaria were striving towards an alliance with Romania and rapprochement with the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. The historical factor determined predominantly Polish-Bulgarian contacts in the realm of culture. Here, Poles and Bulgarians could benefit from the significant potential of Slavic solidarity, friendly relations and mutual interest shaped in the past centuries.
