Summary/Abstract: The study examines the amendments made to the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria in 1990. The amendment to the Constitution is the result of the processes of democratization in Bulgaria which lead to the necessity of creating legal norms which are based on principles of the separation of powers, political pluralism, and the rule of law. With the changes, a new state body is being created - the chairperson (the president), who is the figure of the head of state. Amendments to the Constitution are made on the basis of agreements adopted at the National Round Table between the existing totalitarian power and the emerging political parties and organizations.
