Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the two years’ specialization period that Prof. Petar Dinekov spent in the University of Warsaw – a period that played a significant role in the deep interest in Polish literature, culture and science that he maintained in his entire life. The presentation pays attention to the fact that in Warsaw he had the unique chance to attend lectures by some of the greatest Polish scholars in the field of human sciences, emphasizing also the great influence upon him by the methodology of folklore research developed by Prof. Julian Krzyżanowski, whose follower Prof. Dinekov became after his return to Bulgaria. The steady interest of Prof. Dinekov in Polish theater and his communication with the Polish writer and theater critic Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński also date back to this period. In the paper particular emphasis is put on Prof. Dinekov’s interest in the national epic “Pan Tadeush” by Adam Mickiewicz and his role in popularizing and studying Polish romantic poetry after his return to Bulgaria.
