Summary/Abstract: The Regional Historical Museum-Shumen has in possession the richest collection in Bulgaria, consisting of over 2200 cinema posters from the world cinema. In the museum funds are preserved the only handwritten cinema-magazines in Europe, written by Rostislav Bakalov – “the eccentric of the seventh art”. He made original lists of all movies screened in the cinemas in Shumen in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Among them a particular place occupies the Polish cinema, which was suspended at the beginning of World War II. Yet, after the war it revived and the citizens of Shumen had the opportunity to watch Polish movies. The current report is prepared on the basis of the cinema posters, the lists and other archival documents and newspapers. It reveals the names of the artists, directors, the advertising of the main Polish movies that the citizens of Shumen had the opportunity to watch in the 1920s – 1940s. Those are movies with Pola Negri, Yan Kipura, Nora Ney and other famous artists: “The eyes of the mummy “Ma”, “Madam Dyubari”, “Bohemians”, “The Warsaw Citadel”, “In the cells of Russian prisoners”, “The voice of the desert”, “Forbidden songs”, etc. The story, related to the screening of the movies “The Medicaster” and “Morality” just before World War II is also interesting. The poster of the first Polish movie after the war – “Forbidden songs” (1947) is preserved and quoted. All the wealth preserved by the Regional Historical Museum – Shumen, gives an opportunity for future researches, related not only to the Polish, but also to the world cinema.
