Summary/Abstract: The paper offers a short review of the measures that the Austro-Hungarian government undertook immediately following the occupation for the purpose of systematic oppression of Muslim religious institutions and the highest classes of Bosniak religious intellectual circles of that time. We have also mentioned several delicate situations that made the “normalization” of the relations between the occupational administration and Bosniak people difficult. By applying different governing techniques, the new government tried to win over the local population as soon as possible. In the case of Bosniak Muslims, the social class of the religious intellectual circles was especially interesting. The research suggests that these intellectual circles played a key role in solving all open issues of that time. In the first decade of the occupational administration, representatives of religious intellectual circles were almost the only representatives of the Bosniak people. Therefore, the intention of Austro-Hungarian authorities to place under control key Bosniak representatives in institutional and every other sense was entirely logical and pragmatic.
