Summary/Abstract: The text explores the different, creative ways that sound can be used in radioproductions. It classifies the different kinds of sound on the base of a study of various radioproductions of the Bulgarian National Radio. The prime topics of discussion are the mostcommonly used sounds, the reasons behind their frequent use, as well as how they fit intothe entire composition. The text also explains the base of constructing entirely sound-based compositions in radio, completely excluding music and speech; this is not because they are of little importance, but rather due to the numerous previous analyses on these two topics. Also, their emotional (and commercial) in radio is unquestionable. What this text rules out as most interesting are all the „background“ sounds which build the „language“ of radio and help illustrate events, situations, places, spaces, emotions and states of being. Because all that is,without a doubt, the way radio communicates with people.
