Summary/Abstract: The uniform regulations developed in the maritime transport based on the bill of lading had their share of contribution to the harmonization of the rules governing the conclusion and implementation of the corresponding contracts. The evolution of the international commercial practices influenced by the use of electronic communication and by the possibility of shipping functional interdependence with other modes of transport imposed new solutions for the uniform rules governing the international carriage of goods by sea. This triggered, as a result, the adoption of uniform rules corresponding both to the interests of the parties, and to the modern transport conditions.
