Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the cultural-historical and sociological factors that determine Akhmatova’s activities as a lyrical poetry translator of Ludmila Malinauskaitė-Eglė, Salomeja Neris and Vincas Mikolaitis-Putinas. Akhmatova’s attitude to Lithuanian translations is defined as honest, emphasising her special interest in the poetry of Salomeja Neris. A particular amount of attention is given to Akhmatova’s short-term stay in Vilnius in December 1914, the memory of which has taken a certain place in the individual experience and personal history of the poet. A possible role of poets and translators – Maria Petrovykh and Lev Ozerov – in the progress of translating Lithuanian poetry is investigated and accented. The article authors seek to underline the process of selecting texts for translation, the issue of verbatim translations and authorised published translations, and the chance of possible collaboration in the translating process. Moreover, information of the total of the Lithuanian texts which were translated by Akhmatova is being revised as well as pointing out inaccuracies in the inventories of archival documents.
