Summary/Abstract: On 17.11.2011, The National Library of Spain will celebrate its 300th anniversary. As the oldest cultural institution in Spain, the National Library is a real landmark for all those who are interested in Hispanic culture and history. The article provides information about the institutional organization and development,the strategic plan for the period of 2010-2011, the library collections and their users, but also the new technologies acquired by the institution in order to facilitate access to information. The author describes also the projects in which the National Library is involved and at the same time the cultural activities they initiate.
