Summary/Abstract: The democratic state system has increased both people’s entitlements and obligations associated with socio-political life. Over the last years, the growing socio-political awareness of individuals and social groups has been observed. The research results presented in this study concern the life aims and aspirations related to social-political activity of the young – the Polish learners and the youth of Polish nationality who live in Zaolzie in the Czech Republic and are educated in Czech schools with Polish as the teaching language. What is presented in the article is an outline of socio-political aspirations of two examined groups of learners, living in similar social, political and economic conditions but having different experiences of the historical past and different national awareness. Statistically significant differences in learners’ declarations in both environments result from different views on social activity presented by Polish youth and the youth from Zaolzie. In Zaolzie, the active attitude to social life isa natural thing. The young in Zaolzie are engaged in the activity of local organizations and social cultural and educational institutions aimed at cherishing the Polish national tradition and promoting regional culture. The learners living in Poland perceive the engagement in socio-political life in the categories of profession and career.
