Summary/Abstract: Female editors of the leading woman magazines in the 2nd half of the 19th century emphasized the crucial role of women in family and society. Proper education of young people was considered a patriotic duty. Because not all women were able to meet this challenge, editorial offices set themselves the goal of increasing awareness of their duties, teaching the proper fulfillment of the tasks and demanded a change in the education of youth, especially girls. They emphasized the need to ensure proper women’s education so that they could take up their duties responsibly and were able to educate their children and support family finances with their housework. Te right for paid-work outside their home was only granted to single women, deprived of livelihood. Only “Świt” demanded the women’s right for education and work, regardless of their family situation.
