projects ENRICH and REDISCOVER

Summary/Abstract: National Library of the Czech Republic has been involved in the digitization process through individual projects since the first half of the nineteen-nineties and in 1996 started a mass digitization of written and cultural heritage. Initially was developed the Manuscriptorium platform, a digital library for written and documentary heritage. Still Manuscriptorium had not yet achieved critical mass of aggregated data in order to be able to provide European written and documentary heritage as whole or as representative sample. An important step was the action of gathering partners across Europe and creating consortium for participating in integration of content that is hidden in individual memory institutions. As a result, the ENRICH (European Networking Resources and Information concerning Cultural Heritage) project was prepared and carried out (December 2007 – November 2009). After the experience with the ENRICH project, the National Library of the Czech Republic got involved in aggregating and virtual reconstruction of documents belonging to the period of the Late Middle Ages and Early Modern Era through REDISCOVER (Reunion of Dispersed Content: Virtual Evaluation and Reconstruction) project. These projects are representative for the collaboration of the two national libraries.
