Summary/Abstract: Themis was a journal prepared by authors who were both legal theorists and practitioners. Journal subscribers were mainly practitioners – judges, attorneys, public prosecutors, bailiffs, public notaries and other officials. Analysis of letters to the editors, unfortunately based on very skimpy data, showed that the readers expected the journal to be focused on problems of law application in practice. Revenue from subscriptions was sufficient to maintain the journal presence on the market, which indicates that it fulfilled the readers’ expectations. It was mainly the suitable choice of subjects, that contributed to this success. As calculations reveal, deliberations about application of legal acts amounted to 50% of the content and 23% were about history of law. Both philosophical matters and de lege ferenda issues amounted for 7% of the content each. Reports from courts constituted another 4% and the remaining 9% referred to other issues. It proves that the publisher’s main aim was to support those readers who were practitioners of law.
